Michelle "weed eater" Withrow

Woman smiling among tall bamboo stalks.

Michelle-WeedEater Withrow is an active, avid outdoorsperson who has enjoyed foraging plants and mushrooms for the past eight years in North Carolina and Georgia. She has been harvesting wild coastal foods for the past 54 years in Georgia and Florida (shrimp, lobster, scallops, crabs, fishing and foraging for coastal plants).  Michelle completed the Georgia Master Naturalist program in 2025 and was certified in edible mushrooms five years ago by Mushroom Mountain Company. She has been leading educational walks about foraging edible mushrooms, plants, and medicinal herbs for the past three years at Foxfire Museum in Rabun County, Ga. and for other organizations in Ga. and NC.  Michelle was a wild foods teacher, walk leader and table leader at the 50th annual North Carolina Wild Foods Weekend in April 2026. And is a co-host with Anne Marie Bilella (aka The Forager Chick) of the annual Georgia Wild Foods conference hosted in North Georgia (in its second year). She is the owner of Georgia Wild Foods, a small company that began in 2025 and is dedicated to education and enjoyment of learning about harvesting and preparing edible wild foods in the Southeastern United States. Michelle is currently writing a book and working with a publishing company in North Carolina to complete and publish a book on foraging wild foods in the Southeastern United States. Michelle enjoys educating adults and children about the joys of being outdoors and learning more about our environment and the beautiful state of Georgia.

Michelle is currently writing a book on foraging in the Southeastern United States. It is expected to be published by McFarland Publishing Company in 2027.
